The old town hall is a beautiful heritage gem in Edegem from 1912. It is striking here that the village square is located behind the town hall, instead of in front of it. This is because the square was not built until later. Initially, the town hall just stood between the houses in the street.

To give the town hall the necessary allure, the building was given a solid substructure that served as a plinth. Thus it now towers high above the houses. The roofs of the surrounding buildings have therefore been carefully finished.

Since 2017, the Circle for Heemkunde van Edegem has been housed in the old town hall. It is currently a protected village view.

Do you still remember Sesame Street when Grobi declared "before" and "behind"? He could also have used the old town hall of Edegem (a beautiful historical building from 1912) as an example. Because normally the market square is in front of the town hall. But in Edegem he is behind. The reason: the square was built later. Originally the town hall just stood between the houses on the street.

Also worth seeing: the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Van-Lourdes basilica in neo-Byzantine style with a 60 meter high tower, magnificent vestibule and large dome. Directly opposite is the De Basiliek restaurant, which is run by the third generation of the Valkaert family.
