The Worms Cathedral is next to the Speyer and the Mainz Cathedral an imperial cathedral.
For the Worms Cathedral there is an exception approval, since he is not a bishopric. Only a church that houses a bishop may call itself Dom.
There is a documentation about the construction of the dome as well as about other cathedrals.

One of the three Rhenish Imperial Dome (next to Speyer and Mainz), historic building of beautiful Romanesque architecture.

As is common in buildings of this type - is usually a part of scaffolding obscured, which slightly diminish the splendor. Definitely worth a visit. Beautiful architecture, pretty murals and the small tomb is a bit puny - but the visitors are asked only for 10 cents.

Master builder Balthasar Neumann (1687-1753) created the high altar of gilded wood and different colored marble.
The SW tower is also called donkey tower, because the donkeys transport the building material here; there are no steps!
Opening hours in the summer half-year: 9: 00-17: 45, in the winter half-time 10: 00-16: 45, if not a church service takes place.
There is much to discover and cool in summer.
Also recommended is a tour in the outdoor area, with a visit to the Heylsparks right next door.

Berthulf was the first surviving bishop of Worms in 614. The cathedral under Bishop Burchard von Worms was completely rebuilt in its current size from the beginning of the 11th century, because Burchard I became Bishop of Worms in 1000 and immediately began to reorganize the city.

    from Wikipedia:
The cathedral of St. Peter in Worms is the smallest of the three Rhenish imperial cathedrals. The Worms cathedral is steeper and slimmer designed and about a hundred years younger than the dome in Speyer and Mainz. It was built essentially from 1130 to 1181.

The annual Niebelangen Festival attracts many visitors. The cathedral becomes a stage. A beautiful backdrop.

One of the protzbauten of the cath. Church along the Rhine. Today we are happy about this wastefulness. Did they leave us these beautiful monuments?
