On the way on the Ostfriesland-Wanderweg one hikes on the longest and at the same time oldest hiking route in Ostfriesland. The Ostfriesland hiking trail runs a good part of the disused stretch of the Leer-Aurich-Wittmund small railway. The route was expanded to the East Frisia hiking trail at the end of the 1970s. The popular “Ossiloop” fun run is held here every year.

The Ostfriesland hiking trail is simply wonderful. A great route over the old railway line. Unfortunately it rained all the way from Esenz to Aurich today. But we have decided to take this route again in better weather.
