In the years 1875 to 1878, large masses of earth were moved with simple means for the railway embankment as well as for the gorge in the high forest, so that the railway line and today the cycle path could manage without differences in height. From 1878 to 1945 express trains, passenger and freight trains ran between Labbeck and Uedem.
On March 2, 1945 - 70 years ago - the Canadian army blew up the tracks between Uedemerfeld and the Hochwald and built a tank road out of it. After the war, the line was never put back into service.
In 2015, the route was officially redesignated as a cycle path.
