Since 1870, the large Schaffhausen wooden pool has placed its bow in the current of the Rhine under the Munot. Striped curtains flutter in front of the cloakroom in the "Spitz", the former women's bathroom.
City master builder Joh. Gottfried Meyer was responsible for the construction of the largest remaining box bath in Switzerland (it is said to be the oldest river bathing establishment in Europe). Like other baths built at the same time, strict gender segregation was a strict obligation. So even two separate webs led to the two system halves.
Due to the damming of the power plant, the water level in the pool is constant. However, swimmers should note that the flow of the Rhine becomes faster with larger amounts of water.
The magazine "Annabelle" counted the Rheinbadi Schaffhausen in the pool ratings 2009 and '13 as one of the 10 most beautiful Swiss outdoor pools. The historically interesting bathing complex is also listed in: “The most beautiful baths in Switzerland”, a publication by the Swiss Heritage Protection (2012 edition).
