The Romanian Orthodox church on the outskirts of the Hümmling town of Sögel, which is still under construction, impresses with its wonderful wooden construction.

Largest wooden church of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Germany in Sögel on the Hümmling

The wooden church of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Sögel, completed in spring 2021, offers space for around 200 believers; it is the fourth church of this faith in Germany to be built entirely of wood and is the largest in Germany. The Romanian Orthodox Church impresses with its almost 32 meters high and 24 meters long, mighty wooden beams, many hand-carved elements and the well over 100,000 nailed wooden roof shingles measuring around 60 cm long and 9 cm wide. A 133 and a 79 kilogram bronze alloy bell were hung in the bell tower. Many of the wooden building materials, as well as the two bells, were made in Romania and then transported to Sögel.

The Romanian Orthodox Church can also be visited on request.
