Rose Castle is a small cottage, accessed by footpaths and a rough, unsurfaced road.
It was part of the Monk Coniston estate, which was purchased by Beatrix Potter in 1930 in partnership with the National Trust. A dedicated conservationist, she took an active role in managing both the half of the estate that she retained ownership of, and also the half belonging to the National Trust.
