Extensive ruins of a large castle complex, which extend around 400 meters north of Semione over a rock ridge. The first weir system was built here around 900 and was changed several times in the High Middle Ages. In 1176 Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa besieged the castle and handed it over to a follower, but soon after the Battle of Legnano it was attacked by his Milanese opponents and razed to the ground. The complex that is visible today was built from 1220 and was the residence and place of jurisdiction of Milanese bailiffs. In 1402 Serravalle was conquered again by unknown troops and destroyed with the exception of the castle church.

🚵♂️ SwitzerlandMobility's MTB route 65 "S2" leads right through the ruins of the "Castello di Seravalle." The ruins are open to the public. We've saved some very impressive photos. Reserve some time for a break. 😲
⚔ After the church, there's a 50cm high step to climb. With the knights' strength fueled, this is no problem. 🐴
