Hiking

The Westendorf Gate was one of the four city gates of Schöningen. Only the coat of arms stone from 1604, which was installed in the remains of the wall of the former gate in 2005, has been preserved. The three other goals were:
• the Salztor, also Hessen or Hesiger Tor in the south (Salzstrasse)
• the Niedern or Ostentor in the east (Niedernstrasse)
• the Esbecker Tor or Neue Tor in the north (Neuetor)
The "Westendorf" was an independent community until 1767.
