Start of the Rouvas Gorge Hike at Lake Zaros

Emerald green and tree-lined, this small reservoir was created northeast of Zaros in 1987 to store the city's natural spring water. It attracts numerous birds and is ideal for relaxing in the shady park or eating in the excellent tavern café. A path leads to Moni Agios Nikolaos. Here begins the path through the gorge to the plateau of Rouvas.

Zaros Lake is an excellent starting or finishing point for hikes in the area.
There are many shady spots on the banks and a small tavern where you can get some refreshments.

There are several ways to enter the gorge - the most popular route starts at Lake Zaros. The shortest entry begins at Eleonoras Country Village. You can also start directly at the St. Nicholas Monastery (left through the monastery garden).
