The IJsselvliedt estate is about 300 years old. This mausoleum is part of the estate and stands above the crypt of the Nobel family. The idea of a mausoleum has been copied from the habits in the Dutch East Indies. When J.P. Count Limburg van Stirum was governor-general of the area, he decided to build one on IJsselvliedt. When he and his wife died, they were put here.

The couple mr. J.P. Count Van Limburg Stirum and damsel C.M.R. van Sminia were interred after their death in 1948 and 1955 respectively in the mausoleum they had built in the crypt located at the end of the IJsselvliedtlaan. He was Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1916 to 1921. He probably had the mausoleum built in memory of his time in the Dutch East Indies, where it was customary for mortal remains to be interred in a mausoleum.

In 2005, the mausoleum was restored on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Foundation. The walls have been repaired, it has been repainted and a new roof covering has been applied.
