The largest overshot water wheel in Southern Germany stands in Oberlauda and is the village's pride and joy as a landmark. The foundation stone of the present-day "Ummingersche Mühle" was laid around 1200. The terrain displacement and the abundance of water at this spot were worth their weight in gold for early settlements and were truly a sign from God to build a monastery. Even today, the Klostergasse street points to the origins. The saying: "The Umminger originate from the Kloschter."
