Bike Touring Highlight
The Cuxhaverner coastal heath is a natural experience away from the mudflats and beaches in a beautiful landscape with its valuable flora and fauna. Between the districts of Berensch and Duhnen, the sandy geest extends directly to the Wadden Sea and forms a more or less steep, up to 6m high edge known as the geest cliff. Behind it stretches a mosaic of extensive heaths, grasslands, small heather moors and oak-Kratt forests. Heck cattle, wild horses and bison also live here in large paddocks. A signposted network of trails with information boards, observation platforms and nature trails leads through the diverse Cuxhaven coastal heath landscape.

If you are in and around Cuxhaven, a visit to the “Küstenheide” nature reserve should be part of it. There are great cycling and hiking trails here. However, to protect nature, please do not leave the paths. The hiking trails are not intended for cyclists and are not suitable.

A part of the route where you have a rendezvous with Africa in late summer. As Africa lovers, we often had a landscape like this before our eyes on our safaris. If you start dreaming, you can see the typical African animals in the distance. Buffalo (do they really exist here), giraffes and elephants...a beautiful gazelle behind a bush...Wake up, hello!!! Of course there are other trees and bushes here, but it's damn close, this nature, so beautiful.
