Olbrück Castle, the landmark of the Brohl Valley, can be seen several times on the hike. From here you have a full view of the mountain cone with the castle ruins for the first time.

Olbrück Castle, of which the keep and ruins still bear witness today, was a hilltop castle in the Brohltal. It is the only hilltop castle in the Eifel that can be seen from the Rhine and is the emblem of the Brohltal. In the Middle Ages it was the center of a dominion comprising ten villages, called "Oleburg" or "Holebriche". The castle stands in a dominant position on a 440 meter high phonolite hilltop, which drops steeply into the Brohltal to the north. At the center of the castle complex is a 34 meter high tower, one of the most beautiful residential towers in German castle architecture. The ascent is rewarded with a unique view of the surrounding Eifel landscape as well as the Rhine Valley, Ahr Mountains and the volcanic region. If the weather is good, you can even see Cologne Cathedral. The large complex with tower, pallas including corner towers and outer bailey still gives a good idea of the importance of the imperial rule of Olbrück and its powerful lords. Around the castle hill are the towns of Hain, Niederdürenbach and Holzwiesen. Source: aw-wiki.de/index.php/Burg_Olbr%C3%BCck
