The "Alte 16" was probably built in the first half of the 19th century by farmer Hans-Heinrich Schmidt as a day laborer's cottage for his farm on Hamburger Landstraße. The day laborer's cottage is first explicitly mentioned in a house letter for Wentorf farmer Wilhelm Remi Schmidt dated December 28, 1848. The old-age tenants, Hans Heinrich and Anna Magdalena Schmidt, both died in 1861. Little is known about the cottage's subsequent use. It was probably first used again as a residence for the farmworkers on the Remi Schmidt farm. It is known that the cottage served as an apartment and classroom for teacher Wenk from May 1883 to the end of 1884, after the school building on Teichstraße burned down. Many years of changing owners followed...

After the dissolution of the Panzergrenadier Brigade 16, stationed in Wentorf, the "Klühnsche Kate," as it was now commonly known, was purchased by the German Armed Forces Association and, on December 14, 1994, donated to the newly founded Panzergrenadier Brigade 16 as a meeting place and clubhouse.

The name "Zur Alten 16" (Old 16) derives from its military use, as the house was located directly next to the barracks of the Panzergrenadier Brigade 16. The brigade was stationed in Wentorf for 32 years, until 1994. But then the Bundeswehr abandoned this location,

so the soldiers left the town in the south of the district.

Over months of work, the old farmhouse was rebuilt and renovated with the help of many hard-working volunteers. The old half-timbered structure was carefully exposed.

Until 2012, the traditional association operated the "Alte 16" independently. On March 20, 2012, Roland Pump took over the restaurant and later the entire building. Since then, Roland Pump has modernized almost the entire building and enhanced the outdoor area with terraces and redesigns.
