Location and history: The Strümpfelbach is a flowing body of water in the northwestern Schurwald and in the southern Remstal near the municipality of Weinstadt in Baden-Württemberg.
The approximately 5.7 km long Stümpfelbach rises in the village of Schanbach in the municipality of Aichwald in the northwest of the Schurwald and runs in a northerly direction where it then flows into the Haldenbach at Stetten. The Haldenbach in turn flows into the Rems at Endersbach.
Significant for the Strümpfelbach is the naming of an entire wine village in the municipality of Weinstadt im Remstal. In the village of Strümpfelbach, however, the Strümpfelbach is then channeled underground through the village.
The name refers to a defining word from the Middle Ages. That also used to be strivmpheln. At that time, this meant the drainage plug of water tanks and weirs as well as the naming of weirs in the course of a stream.
At that time the brook was dammed in the village by various weirs and so the place name Strümpfelbach and the name of the brook running through the place came about.
