The Ezinge mound, which already existed around 300 BC and where rectangular huts of branches and clay stood, was thoroughly investigated by archaeologists in the 1930s. They discovered artefacts that had been imported from the Roman Empire (now in the Groninger Museum in the city of Groningen). There is also a small museum in the village.
