Wierumerschouw is located on one of the oldest streets in Groningen, the street from the Aduard Monastery to the Uiterhuis de Rodeschool near Bedum. Part of this street, between Adorp and Bedum, still has the name Munnekeweg (= Mönchsstraße). The dike at Wierumerschouw was built in the 13th century.
