Since the opening of the summer dike in 2014, natural dynamics have returned to the Langwarder Groden: plagues are emerging and - unlike what humans have predicted - the springwater saltwater sponge plant has spread strongly. Typical fish of the Wadden Sea and salt-tolerant or salt-loving insects are found in the formerly freshwater-embossed Groden. The 140-hectare nature reserve has also become an attractive breeding, resting and feeding ground for birdlife.
