RHYNERN - Formerly independent - Today a district of HAMM - has a history going back over 1000 years and the church of St. REGINA dates back to 1302. Only a few churches in Germany bear the name Sankt Regina, one of them is the one in Hamm-Rhynern.... it is located on the ridge between Lippetal and Hellwegmulde, convenient to several historic highways. The building made of local, slightly greenish sandstone has massive dimensions with a central nave height of 10 m and a 56 m high rectangular tower from the Gothic period with a copper pyramid helmet. Otherwise it is a typical Romanesque vaulted basilica with a transept, a rectangular choir and a mighty west tower. Inside, the choir room is characterized by wall arcades and beautiful stone carvings adorn the entire building. The Romanesque baptismal font made of yellow sandstone from the beginning of the 13th century is the oldest component. The Flemish carved altar in the choir is also impressive: with the wings open it measures 2.60 m by 5.40 m and a central shrine measures 2.60 m by 2.70 m. It comes from the workshops of the St. Luke's Guild in Antwerp. Otherwise, the hexagonal floor plan of the Evangelical Church from 1665 in Rhynern is remarkable.

For over 150 years from 1817 to 1967, RHYNERN was the seat of the local administration responsible for 21 communities, which was responsible for around 26,000 residents until the offices were dissolved by the local government reorganization on January 1, 1968.
Today, the Hamm-Rhynern district is a popular residential area with motorway access and a location for logistics, industrial and commercial companies to settle.
