The Urspring spring (source pot Urspring), which is located at the former Benedictine monastery Urspring and today Urspring school, is covered by a natural stone wall. The source forms a small lime-sands hill. On average, the karst spring pours 500 liters per second. The spring pot is about five meters deep.

Very similar in beauty to the Blautopf, but while "all hell broke loose" there, we were alone here! On Saturday!

A true insider tip are the little brothers of the famous Blautopf here in the valley on the edge of Schelklingen. Both the Achtopf and the Urspringtopf impress with their blue color, just like their "big" relative in nearby Blaubeuren. The water's name, "Topf," reflects its bowl-like shape. Karst springs are usually the end of a cave system, where a cave stream reaches the earth's surface. Whether one enjoys the bright blue of these two springs depends on external influences, as the striking blue color of the water is caused by the scattering of light from the lime-saturated spring water.
