Since many paths to the lake are closed due to the birds and their protection, this platform is ideal for observing the diverse fauna. Very nice panoramic view, explanatory boards bring you closer to the bird life and well suited as a resting place.

The Schmiechener See is a nature and bird sanctuary in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The shallow-water lake south-east of the Schelklingen district of Schmiechen occupies an area of up to 50 hectares with a water depth of no more than 2 meters during floods; in dry years it can dry out to a few moist spots. The lake Schmiechener has no outlet, its only inflow is the Siegenbach. The area lies on a clay layer up to 35 meters thick in a meander of the glacial Urdonautals.
