For a nice, quick forest walk, you can hike up above Harz Camp Göttingerode via the Hessental (sturdy footwear recommended in wet weather). Continue along the Glue-Bues Trail, with its magnificent views, to the Sonnentor (Sun Gate). Afterwards, the unspoiled Schlackental Valley, with its typical Harz stream, rewards you with a slice of Goldberg cake after an hour of walking for approximately 160 meters of elevation gain and a distance of 4.5 km. (Café Goldberg is currently open Thursday to Sunday).
