The fountain known as Bassinia was built in 1406 on the Grand-Place in Huy. From this period, in addition to the large brass basin, also date the four crenellated towers alternating with four statuettes identified as those of Saint Catherine, Saint Domitian, Saint Mengold and the last count of Huy (10th century). In 1597, the central core was surmounted by a fifth statuette representing the "Cwèrneû", the guardian of the city, who stood at the top of the old bell tower and blew his instrument, a horn, to sound the alarm when the enemy threatened the city.

In the first half of the eighteenth century, the fountain was completed by a wrought iron canopy bearing the double-headed eagle of the Holy Roman Empire. Then, as now, the fountain was fed by a pump that brought water from a spring in the Sainte-Catherine district.

"Li Bassinia" is considered one of "The Four Wonders of Huy".

        The other three are:

Li Pontia: stone bridge over the Meuse from 1294, destroyed and repaired many times, destroyed again in 1944 and replaced by a new bridge in 1956

Li Tchestia: castle of the prince-bishops of Liège. This castle was demolished after 1717, later the Dutch Fort was built on the same spot

Li Rondia: rose window of the Church of Our Lady. The window has a diameter of 6 meters (including stone frame: 9 meters)
