History
Oostwold airport was founded in 1960 and got its current size in 1976. The runway is 900 meters long, with the first 600 meters of runway 25 paved with grass stones. The total length is 1050 meters. Initially the airport was used exclusively for agricultural aviation purposes, but in recent years agricultural aviation has almost completely disappeared. The airfield is now in use as a General Aviation airfield. The airport is developing more and more as a Para center, the airspace above East Groningen offers space for this. Areas elsewhere, especially in the provinces of North and South Holland, Utrecht and Flevoland, have a lot of influence from Schiphol and therefore have less space. In the new airspace vision, Oostwold is mentioned as one of the locations with a jump height of up to FL 150. Having an airport is a tourist attraction and economically important, it offers access from the air, so having an airport is also infrastructure. The importance of Oostwold airport for East Groningen is great. Industrial areas such as Delfzijl, but also Eemshaven, will be better accessible.
