The Cornberg Benedictine monastery emerged from the beguinage in Bubenbach, a Christian women's community without religious vows and cloister, which was probably formed in the context of the poverty movement of the early 13th century.

This community submitted to the Benedictine Imperial Abbey of Hersfeld in 1230 and moved to the more protected Cornberg valley between 1292 and 1296. The founding of the monastery that went with it probably went back to the instigation of the castle men of the neighboring Boyneburg. Last but not least, the construction of the monastery was intended to secure a livelihood for the unmarried women of the family.

The Cornberg Monastery is a listed former Benedictine monastery in Cornberg, which was built in the years 1292-1296. Napoleon's sister is said to have stayed here on a trip.

Adjacent is a sandstone museum where numerous fossils from the copper slate of the Richelsdorf Mountains and the Cornberger Zechstein give an impression of the biodiversity of marine animals and plants from the original region.

There is also a beautiful small natural lake right next to the monastery.
