Construction of this gigantic cathedral, crowned with one of the largest domes in Italy, began in 1488. Bramante and Leonardo da Vinci are said to have worked on the design. Because of the complexity of the dome, it was not completed until 1887. The facade is 19th century.

Cycling
The history of Pavia Cathedral is long and tormented. The first project dates back to 1488. Cardinal Ascanio Sforza's idea was to give Pavia a new Renaissance cathedral to replace the medieval basilicas. The cardinal could not have known that it would take more than 400 years to complete this work, in fact the Cathedral was only completed in the 1930s. Inside there are the remains of San Siro, protector of Pavia, and a relic which is said to contain the thorns of Christ's crown.
