Glencanisp Lodge is often the starting point for a hike onto Suilven, one of the UK's most remarkable mountains. Any approach to Suilven is long and Glencanisp Lodge is about as close as you can get by car. There's an honesty shop, where you can gather refreshments before or after your hike.

The Assynt Foundation was established in advance of the landmark community land buy-out of the Glencanisp and Drumrunie Estates, in the parish of Assynt in the North-West Highlands of Scotland.

In June 2005, the community of Assynt bought these estates, 44,400 acres of stunningly beautiful natural land under provisions of the 2003 Scottish Land Reform Act.

The area includes the magnificent mountains of Suilven, Canisp, Cul Mor and Cul Beag, a traditional Victorian hunting Lodge, Glencanisp Lodge, and an awe-inspiring, wildlife-rich world of lochans, rivers and hills.

There is an honesty shop to pick up goodies after your ascent of Suilven ;-)

Not far from the lodge is the widely captured view across the loch to the towering western end of Suilven. Get the trees into the shot too!
