As of Wednesday, Bochum has been the only city in the world with an Opel GT monument.
The history goes back to 2017. A friend offers Klaus Altfeld a GT, built in 1973, for sale. The graduate engineer and the former Opel electrician Konrad Goretzka and the hobby artist Annimieke Schade seize it immediately.
The trio slaughtered the car, worked on the body in rust optics. The legend hovers on a stainless steel Opel Blitz.
In 2018 the GT is the eye-catcher at the Auto Show in downtown Bochum. Then a permanent location for the 1000 kilo monument will be sought.
On Wednesday the speedster was ready for the island. An employee carefully maneuvered him onto a concrete base using a remote control crane.
