From the 1920s to 2001, rock mining led to large wounds in the landscape. Hard glauconite sandstone was coveted for railway and subway construction. Even the Marienplatz in Munich was temporarily paved with stones from the moss. After the mining at the deep open pit at the Long Köchel ended, it gradually filled with groundwater. Today there is an undisturbed ecosystem, especially under water. It is not allowed to fish in the waters.
