The Egelsbach Transmitter Facility is a communication and SIGINT station in the USA. The site has been used by the US armed forces since the end of World War II. On an approx. 30 hectare open space there are operational buildings next to the antenna systems.
There are 20 mostly log-periodic short-wave antennas on the site. In addition, there are now four radomes. There are microwave radio relay systems on a mast structure. Two microwave bowls point towards the former Rhein-Main Air Base.
While other U.S. military facilities were shut down or reduced in the 2000s, expansion work was taking place here. Another radome with an estimated five meters in diameter was created in 2011.
Generators for energy supply are available in underground systems. In addition, the facility had several bunkers on the neighboring area, which was also a restricted area, which have since been demolished. What was stored there is still unknown.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Land Forces in Europe said for the purpose of the facility to a local newspaper in 2011: “The facility is operated by the United States Department of Defense. It serves to guide and control communication in the military field. "
