    Monumental, gloomy, mysterious but also fascinating. The remainder of the domination of the Third Reich in Europe is also a symbol of the mystery that accompanies the Masurian Canal. Therefore, while in this region of Masuria, it is worth seeing the dam on this object. The huge, concrete building with traces of the symbolism of the Third Reich still inspires terror and an atmosphere of mystery that accompanies the conjecture about the actual plan for the expansion of the Masurian Canal. Were there supposed to be submarines built in the area, which could reach the Baltic Sea through the Masurian Canal? Or maybe the Germans planned a completely different investment, and why was such a monumental structure built as this dam?
    The lock in Leśniewo Górny is 46 meters long, 7.5 meters wide and has a 17-meter drop. It was completed in about 30% (70% according to other data). On the front wall of the lock, you can see a recess in which the symbol of the German eagle was to be placed. Currently, there is a rope park in the lock area. Thanks to this, you can reach the top of this facility via a special pier and see its monumental form, or take advantage of more extreme adventures, using rope descents. It is also a form of visiting this object. The use of the rope park will surely leave you with an unforgettable experience.
    The lock is an element of the mysterious Masurian Canal. To this day, it is not known what specific goal the Germans set for this facility. The project to build the Masurian Canal appeared at the end of the 19th century - as a route connecting Masurian lakes with the Baltic Sea. The idea was to quickly float the timber towards the Baltic ports and to develop tourism. The use of water to create electricity was also considered. During the war conflicts, the channel gained a different, more military significance.
    One of the latest technical projects indicates that ten steps are planned to be built with slopes ranging from 5 to 17 meters. The construction of the canal started in 1911. However, the works were stopped when World War I broke out. The idea of building this facility was returned in 1934. Then the canal became a secret project. However, the implementation of this plan was interrupted again in 1942.
