Memorial Site of the Klinkerwerk Subcamp at Klinkerhafen

Can you have a look when you come by anyway. But you don't have to go extra.

As part of the events marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the prisoners of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 2015, another memorial site for the victims of the "Klinkerwerk" concentration camp subcamp was inaugurated at the harbor basin. According to the design by Kamel Louafi and Dörte Eggert-Heerdegen, the existing memorial site at the harbor basin was partially enclosed with steel walls, one of which was fitted with a steel plaque with a quote from a survivor. Openings create visual connections to the authentic site and its surroundings. The existing memorial, a triangle made of bricks found on the grounds and erected by young people as part of a work camp in 1998, was enclosed by a round concrete base bearing a dedication text.
