"The market approved for Lüdinghausen in 974 was an important prerequisite for the development of the town.
The market square, where the town hall once stood, formed the central point of the city next to the church, a function that the square still has today. Not far from where the market pump used to be, on 10 August 1980 the foundation stone was laid for the market fountain.
The fountain is a creation of the artist Rudolf Breilmann from Münster-Roxel. The demonstrably formerly nine castles from Lüdinghausen area were cause to make the market fountain nine-sided. On the bronze plaques motifs from the changeable history of Lüdinghausen are shown. The figure on the column represents Emperor Otto II. It was he who granted the abbot Folkmar von Werden the coin and market right for its place. "Source: lhmarketing.de/sehenswertes/altstadt/marktplatz -Fountain/
