It is important that places like the ones hiked here in the Hürtgenwald, illustrated and partly described, keep alive the memory of the hardship, misery and suffering of that time, and thus a testimony to the horror of war and tyranny. This culture of commemoration and remembrance has an essential and – for every generation anew – important goal: admonishing people to PEACE.

Robert Cahow, one of 8 brothers, died trying to save another soldier. He was missing until 2000 as missing. He was found by pioneers in the removal of mines. He was then transferred to America and buried.
