Tips

  • The Hainchen moated castle with its eventful history is a cultural and historical monument that depicts architectural and structural evidence of different epochs in the history of the Siegerland. It is located near the Rothaarsteig, one of the most popular hiking trails in Germany. Although there are countless moated castles in the Westphalian lowlands, this unique high-altitude moated castle in North Rhine-Westphalia is only found on the heights in Hainchen. It was first mentioned in a document in 1290.

In 2017 the castle was awakened from its deep slumber. The Siegerland Burgenverein pursues the goal of making the castle tangible and a meeting place for young and old with great commitment. The park should become a recreational and open space for everyone, including people with disabilities.

With the reorientation towards celebrations and weddings with the wedding room in the castle, overnight accommodation and gastronomy, on the one hand, future "yes-men" and families belong to the target group of the castle.

  • The Hainchen moated castle is a structural testimony to the most varied of epochs in the Siegerland history. It was first mentioned in a document in 1290. Over the centuries, the Hainchen moated castle changed hands several times. It experienced its heyday under the von Bicken family, who owned it for more than 350 years. From 1815, under the Prussian state ownership, the castle gradually fell into disrepair.

Today the Hainchen moated castle is a popular destination. The 33,000 m² park invites you to linger. In the old coach house you can stop off on Wednesdays and Sundays.

  • A beautiful old moated castle with an interesting history. Around the castle you can learn a lot about the castle on information boards. In the wooded area above there is an adventure playground and other boards showing the location of the various trades in the castle. Worth seeing and exciting. There are tables and benches all over the site to linger and you can also stop off in the depot (observe opening hours). Admission to the site is free.
