Why Ilsenburg ... and not Isiburg 🤔 as shown on the maps?
Originally called "Schwedenschanze", as is customary with ring walls, which were built by the population during the Thirty Years' War in Catholic areas as a refuge to protect against the Protestant Swedish troops or which were built as a redoubt by the Swedish troops themselves. In this case, the name is probably based on error, because the first excavations in 2006 suggest that the historical background of the complex was different. Since then, the term “Isiburg” has established itself in common parlance.
The area of the Schwedenschanze was heavily modified in the 1930s and 1950s due to the removal of gravel and the western half of the fortification was completely destroyed. From the air, the remains of the castle ramparts can still be seen on the farmland at the edge of the forest and in the wooded part of the landscape protection area.
Yes, and L.R. Outdoor is basically correct ... only that this highlight and the actual stamp point 22 "Schwedenschanze" are still a good bit apart.

The Isiburg is a ring wall from the late Bronze Age. In the undulating farmland you can still faintly see a crescent-shaped base. The best view is from the high seat at the edge of the forest a little to the left of the passage at the bank. The more recent excavations with numerous finds took place between 2006 and 2012.

You can't see anything anymore. Not even a sign or anything.

and that is exactly what these beautiful, idyllic spots are along the route above the meadows and fields. The pictures clearly show it, a break in the middle of nature, just wonderful!

since this highlight is parallel to the upper path, it creeps in again and again under path on the mountain. So it's not part of this hike, but Komoot can't tell the places apart, sorry.

rest, take a break, enjoy the view ... whatever moves you to stop here, you will know and appreciate it.

The parking lot at the Itschenkrug restaurant is a good introduction to this stamping point. From here a path leads through partly wooded terrain to the Schwedenschanze, stamping point 22 of the HAVO (northern Harz foreland)

I have never found so many benches along this section of the path on my hikes as here, which certainly testifies to the uniqueness of this idyllic route.
