The order Terceira de Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo of Tavira was founded at the beginning of the 18th century and initially had its place in a chapel of the Convent of São Paulo. In 1737, efforts were made to build a separate convent in the city, which led to a temporary relocation of the Order in the hermitage of São Brás.
