The forest church MARIA STERNBACH is definitely worth seeing. A wooden church at this point was first mentioned in 778. For almost 800 years, the church was the center of the village of STERNBACH with surrounding houses and a small village pond. However, STERNBACH went under completely by 1564; only the church remained and was maintained by the monks of the nearby WICKSTADT monastery. The plague raged in the Wetterau in 1555. There is a high probability that the residents of STERNBACH died. Any survivors found their livelihood with the monks in WICKSTADT.After the war, MARIA STERNBACH became very popular as a pilgrimage church. MARIA STERNBACH is one of the 30 most beautiful churches in Hesse.

Beautiful little church in the middle of the forest with remains of the walls of the medieval village and a very beautiful pond, which is reminiscent of a fish pond in a monastery
