The third stage of our traverse of the Steinernes Meer started at the Ingolstädter Haus and ended at the Kärlinger Haus. Mostly downhill, you slowly leave the stone desert on this path.

The Schindlkopf is one of the local mountains of the Ingolstädter Hütte. The ascent involves some scrambling, but we had a lot of fun. :-)
We set the summit as the destination for our third stage of the traverse of the Steinernes Meer.

The Ingolstädter Haus is surrounded by several peaks that can be climbed without technical aids. The Kleine Hundstod is one of them.
We added the summit climb to our second stage of the Steinernes Meer traverse, so that we have enough altitude meters in our legs in the evening and fall into bed dog-tired

The second stage of our traverse of the Steinernes Meer led us from the Peter-Wiechenthaler-Hütte, over the Weißbachlscharte, to the Ingolstädter Haus.
The ascent to the saddle is quite demanding, secured with steel cables in several places, but doable. It always offers spectacular views back to the Peter

The first stage of our tour through the Steinerne Meer.
We traveled by train to Saalfelden, which is easily and nicely doable with the ÖBB.
From the Bachwinkel hiking parking lot, there are several options to ascend to the Peter-Wiechenthaler-Hütte, depending on your skill and mood.

The Wispertalsteig is one of the "Wisper Trails", which are heavily promoted here in the region as low mountain range hikes. The loop is quite "nice", but not exactly "mind-blowing". The signage is top-notch. Sometimes you get the feeling it's chosen a bit haphazardly to make the "trail" a bit longer

From the Kärlinger Haus, down through the Saugasse, to St. Bartholomä - that was the fourth and final stage of our crossing of the Steinernes Meer.
We quickly refreshed ourselves at the Königsee bathing beach. Brilliant. The finale was once again pork knuckle, char and a half-liter of beer at the inn in St. Bartholomä.
