The cork oak is a fascinating tree

It can produce between 100 and 200 kg of cork over the course of its life.

The cork oak is the only tree whose bark can be peeled without causing damage. The cambium forms a layer of cork early on that can be three to five centimeters thick.

Regular peeling makes the oak resistant to fire and even binds more CO₂ than unused cork oaks.
