After the end of the war, the field first came under the administration of the American and then the Belgian armed forces. At the urging of the private pilots, the landing field was again approved for civilian use. Clubs were quickly founded and, in addition to powered aircraft, also developed gliding. The universities were particularly involved in gliding. Merzbrück has been a performance base for gliding since 2005.
