The Mars-La-Tour barracks, also known as the "Russian or Military Hospital", was built between 1937 and 1943 and is located on a hill to the left of the "Carlshöhe". The name comes from the battle on August 16, 1870 in near the town of Mars-La-Tour in north-eastern France, where a cycling training department and the 9th Cavalry Regiment of the Wehrmacht were stationed. Part of the building was demolished around 1952. In 1954, the western group of the Soviet armed forces moved in and the building was functional to a hospital.
