The Mühlensee is located near Ankershagen in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The forest-surrounded, approximately 40-hectare lake is considered one of the three historic source lakes of the Havel, along with the Bornsee and Trinnensee. These Havel spring lakes are located on the southern edge of the main terminal moraine of the “Pomeranian stage” of the Vistula glaciation and originally released their water into the Diekenbruch to the south, from which the Havel emerges.
