This bronze work of art is reminiscent of the Roman 'Brittenburg': the ruins of what is probably the westernmost fort of the Roman Limes. The fort, which was known to the Romans as 'Lugdunum Batavorum', has been partly demolished and partly taken by the sea. The ruin was exposed by several major storms in the centuries after Roman times.

At the time of the Brittenburg, the coast ran 1000 m further towards the sea. The Brittenburg once stood out there, a Roman fort at the end of the Limes. Here, an informative board commemorates the castle swallowed up by the sea in several languages.

There are actually a lot of these sculptures on site - well made and maintained.
