Fritz Philippi wrote in 1921 the story "The Heath Cross". He was parish priest in Breitscheid from 1897 to 1904. In addition to his pastoral work, he was also a writer of poems, stories, dramas, etc. He described mostly the living conditions of the rural population in the barren "High Westerwald", whose drama unfolded from the harshness of everyday life.
