Mountain Biking Highlight
The natural monument Ketzerstein lies at an altitude of 610 m south of the community Liebenscheid-Weißenberg. The heretic stone is an unusual basalt formation. The lava did not freeze into pillars but into blocks. The basalt blocks have another special feature: the high iron content influences every compass needle. Possibly, the unusual rock formation was used in pre-Christian times as a sacrificial altar.

Out of nowhere they stand there. Natural formation that I have never seen before. Almost as if they were stacked there. Nice to look at with a great panorama in the background.

Small stone formation in the high Westerwald. To be honest, I had imagined them a little bigger, but size ........ :-) :-).
No, they are definitely worth a visit. Look at it yourself!

On the next visit, take a compass.
Somehow the natural magnetic field is influenced by the stones or by a strongly iron-containing underground. 😕

If you are in the area, definitely go there. On the one hand because of the stones, on the other hand because of the great view and the rest opportunities.

Whimsical stone picture in the middle of the landscape with great views.

On this hill you have a good view over Weißenberg to the Siegerland airport in the distance. Because of the influence on the earth's magnetic field, it is better not to calibrate your compass here 😉

The view from here is nice. You can rest well here.

The rough basalt blocks of the Heretic Stone are said to have magical powers!
No matter which direction you come from, the compass needle always shows you "North". Why?
This is due to the high iron-titanium content of the stones, which affects every compass and drives them crazy.
Many believe that the unusual boulders, which have an altar-like shape, were used as a pagan sacrificial altar.
Blood should flow here...
Whether the name "Ketzerstein" from the nearby deserted village "Katzhausen" might also come from a border crossing "cat" or whether the first Christians called the presumed sacrificial site that, no one knows today. (Source: my homeland)

Easy to reach by bike or on foot. Located directly on the wasterwald variant of the Rothhaarsteig and there are 2 benches with a beautiful view for a rest

Nice view, and benches to wait are also there. If it takes a little longer to take a picture without a stranger on it 🙈😂✌️😎🌞
