The port of Burgstaaken then and now

First mentioned in 1778, there is talk of a small boat harbor “op Borchstaken”. In 1780 a first ferry line to Rödby was established, which ran once a week.

1854 - 1857 the first major expansion of the Burgstaaken port took place. The fairway is dredged and receives a stone mole on both sides at the exit of the inland lake. The harbor basin is on a

Size of 93m long, 25m wide and 2.50m deep dredged. The port was enlarged again from 1865 to 1871 to a length of 124m and a width of 36m.

In 1904 the port was connected to the rail network. The rail link remained in existence until the Fehmarnsund Bridge was completed in 1963. Between 1912 and 1974, further renovation work was carried out without changing the layout of the port.

In 1975 there was a further expansion to make the port usable for the "butter steamers". Since then, the layout of the port has remained unchanged, but further renovation work has been added over time.

There is always something going on. It's fun to watch the harbor bustle.
