Even before the Thirty Years' War, the Zehista manor was converted into a castle. For Zehista, located south of Pirna, an outwork was first mentioned in 1458 and in 1551 a knight's estate based on old scripts. In 1639, during the siege of Pirna that took place during this war, the castle temporarily housed the headquarters of the Swedish Field Marshal Johan Banér. In 1651 it came into the possession of Banér's former opponent, the Pirna fortress commander Johann

Siegmund von Liebenau. In 1735, Johann Adolph von Brühl, a brother of Heinrich Graf von Brühl, bought the property. The house church from 1742, which is worth seeing, was also built in his time. The last owners of the castle were the noble family von Rex, who owned it from 1820 until it was expropriated as part of the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone in 1945.

The castle had been empty since 1995. In 2011, a private investor began renovating the main building. This work was largely completed in December 2014. The castle is now used for residential purposes (9 apartments).

The castle is being restored and has a rustic castle park that can be explored.
