In the Middle Ages there was a castle here, but it fell victim to the flames in the Thirty Years' War. In 1648 the van Drebber family had the east wing of the palace rebuilt. Only the ornate Renaissance archway built in 1617 survived the fire unscathed. The Gutscafé is open every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

If you go through the archway, there is a room with seating and a table on the right. Snacks and cool drinks can be purchased there. Helpful, but you only see that when you "enter" the manor.

The medieval Drakenburg (Low German for Drachenburg), which gave the place its name, was a castle complex located directly on the Weser and served as a barrier and customs fortification to control shipping on the Weser and a river crossing. It was destroyed in the 14th century during the Mandelsloh feud, probably in 1381. In addition to the medieval Drakenburg, there was a three-winged castle in the village. It was burned down by the Danish defenders of Nienburg in the Thirty Years' War in 1627, as was the town of Drakenburg during Tilly's second siege of Nienburg.
